Zvonimir Freivogel

Navy Consultant

   

Dr. Zvonimir Freivogel, born on 19. July 1955 at Zagreb, Croatia, was an pupil of the Humanistic Gymnasium at Zagreb, and an student of the Faculty for Stomatology of the University of Zagreb from 1974 through 1979, graduating with diploma in 1979. In the same year he changed his residence to Germany, opening after two years his own dental practice at Coburg. Starting in early 1970s, he studied naval matters, and beginning in 1992, Dr. Freivogel began to write articles for various naval and military publications, as Croatia´s HRVATSKI VOJNIK, American WARSHIP INTERNATIONAL, Germany´s MARINE FORUM and SCHIFF & ZEIT, Poland´s OKRETY WOJENNE and Italy´s STORIA MILITARE. He also wrote several booklets in the series MARINE ARSENAL, covering the Royal Yugoslav warships serving under the German flag in WW 2, the captured destroyers and torpedo boats in the service of the "Kriegsmarine", and the sinking and research of the Austro-Hungarian dreadnought SZENT ISTVÁN. In Austria his book on the fates of the Austro-Hungarian High-Seas Torpedo Boats was published, in Germany the book about the German Auxiliary Cruisers in WW II, and in Croatia on Austro-Hungarian Battleships. He is also cooperating with the editors of such well-known naval yearbooks as "Jane´s Fighting Ships", "Almanacco Navale", "Combat Fleets of the World", "Weyers Flottentaschenbuch" and "Flottes de Combat". Dr. Freivogel´s main interest and focus of research are the navies of the Adriatic and Mediterranean.

He is the co-author (with Jelena Borošak-Marijanović) of the catalogue Sportske značke i odličja do Univerzijade 1987. (Sporting Badges and Awards before the 1987 University Games), 1987. Also, he is the co-author of the catalogue Novac, medalje i odlikovanja u Hrvatskoj 1848-1849. godine, Godina 1848. u Hrvatskoj (Coins, Medals and Orders in Croatia 1848-1849, The Year 1848 in Croatia), Zagreb, 1998., str. 56-61.
